AGM -1st October 2008 Welcome to the new parents who have joined us for this special meeting. The AGM takes place at the start of the new academic year and is an opportunity for the Chairperson…or Chairpersons in this PTA’s case, to reflect on the work of the organisation during the past year.
My role, as the official Chairperson, is very much one of delegation - Sarah Parsons, the ‘working Chairperson’ of the PTA is the face at meetings and the one who takes responsibility for motivating the PTA into action. I have been grateful for her enthusiasm and commitment during a year where I have not always been around, due to my seconded position as a School Development Adviser for the Local Authority. I’d like to publicly thank Sarah for ensuring that the annual events like the fete and school prom were organised without me!
Thanks also to Sue Phillips who has managed the role of Treasurer whilst expecting Mia her little girl. Thanks to the those who supported Sue with the role for the brief time during her delivery. Thanks also to Sue Poole for her work as Secretary throughout the year.
The Christmas Fayre was held around the school, and was another learning curve, but I think it was slightly better than the previous year. We had a new Father Christmas- John Morgan, and his grotto looked good. The summer fete was supposed to be held outside, but moved very quickly inside due to inclement weather. Despite the sudden re-arrangement, the PTA made a very good profit. The hi-light of the year was definitely the PTA’s contribution to the Year 6 prom! The hall has never before been transformed quite so quickly with beautiful drapes;-even the outside was welcoming as the pupils came in all their refinery. I think perhaps the PTA should think about a garden party for the parents and others who gather for this event on an annual basis! I know the staff enjoy being around watching the arrivals before the Prom starts and would love a more social opportunity!
The secret ingredient of a successful school is simply measured by the commitment of the parents and carers; when the staff and parents work together in partnership, the benefits for the pupils can be staggering. The staff and I are always looking for ways to work even more closely with you the parents and also the wider community as a whole. This was demonstrated in our very successful Tour de Tenby that took place in the summer term. The PTA’s efforts at supporting out initiatives and fundraising for specific projects continue to make a tremendous impact on the children’s experiences and I would sincerely like to thank-you, on behalf of the staff, for your unstinting work in helping us to be ‘simply the best’. I will now ask Sarah, the Working Chairperson, to give you her perspective of the work of the PTA during the last year.
Thank you all for attending, and long may your excellent work continue.
J M Llewellyn
