Buildings and Facilities

The original building is of early 1930's construction and encompasses a large and pleasant quadrangle. The Mathematics, MFL and Technology areas are located in this part of the School along with the major part of the Science accommodation.
The two newer blocks (dating from the early 70's) house the Social Science Academic Area and English in one building and Art, Food Technology, two Information Technology Rooms, Business Education Area and Canteen in the other. Facilities include six Science Laboratories, an Integrated Workshop, Conference Room, Drama Studio, Library, Micro Electronics Room, Special Education Needs facilities in both English and Mathematics areas, Gymnasium, Sports Hall and adjoining playing fields including an all-weather surface.
Plans are in hand for considerable refurbishment and remodelling work in the near future. From our own budget a new Science laboratory will be created within existing floor space. Two new laboratories should see the total 'suiting' of Science accommodation. Possible funding for this is under consideration in the light of the Funding Agency for School's latest non-funding announcements. Via the Sports Council's Lottery Unit some £13,000 was granted towards the equipping of the Sports Hall as a Cricket Centre of Excellence supported by Essex County Cricket Club.
An award of £58,000 from the Government's Schools Access Initiative has seen the instalment of ramps and a lift to improve accessibility for the disabled to all ground floor facilitates and the IT and non-resistant materials Technology facilitates.
