Brief History of the School

The Grays School is designated a six form entry mixed comprehensive school for 900 pupils aged 11-16. The site was first utilised by the John Henry Burrows Intermediate School whose buildings are still used today and date from 1932. The 1944 Education Act saw this become the Grays Technical High School and in 1971 a new school, Grays County Secondary School, incorporating the old selective school with mostly new and vastly expanded facilities, was opened. On 01 April 1993 The Grays School Grant Maintained, came into being opened by the Vice Chancellor of Anglia University.
