Introduction
St. Godric's is an Aided Catholic Primary School, situated between Thornley and Wheatley Hill in County Durham and serves both parishes. Originally founded in 1874, St. Godric's is set within its own grounds. These include a play yard, a large field and a nature garden. It caters for children aged 4+ to 11 years in a family atmosphere under a Christian ethos.

St. Godric of Finchale, was an 11th century hermit who lived on the banks of the River Wear. A confidant of Thomas Beckett, Godric was sought out by many for his theological insight and spiritual wisdom.
