Village Information. An interview with the Chairman of the Parish Council
Interview with Mr Clarke , chair of the Parish Council
1.Do you know when the Church was built?
The bells in Thorpe were taken out in the year 1998 and the date printed on the bells was the year 1612.The bells were taken out for the millennium. The bells have been taken to the iron foundry for refurbishment. Eventually the church hopes to have three new bells cast to join the three existing bells. The tower is already strengthened for this. The 6 bells will be able to ring a full peel.
2.Can you remember what the school dinners tasted like?
Mr Clark couldn't tell us if the school dinners tasted good, because he did not go to Thorpe School at the time. Mrs Dunbar cooked the meals in school then. If you were at Thorpe School perhaps you could
e-mail the computer club with your views on School meals.
3.Do you know how many people live in Thorpe?
There are approximately 500 people on the electoral register. Mr Richardson has sold some farmland and 8 big new houses are being built on it, so probably 20 people will live there. On another site in a field is another development for 13 houses.
4.Do you know where Thorpe's name came from?
Thorpe-on-the-Hill's name comes from Roman and Viking times.
How many people go to church?
There are 10 people who regularly attend church.
