UK National Curriculum Technology
I am disappointed that the electronics content is only really electrical circuits rather than electronics.
I know that technology is about using science rather than doing science but don't you think that pupils
should understand what is happening and why? I teach GCSE, AS and A-level Electronics and A-level
Technology. The A-level Technology is just about reaching the level of understanding of my
GCSE Electronics students. Why is it that CDT seems to be more interested in the shape and colour
of the box than what's inside it? I honestly feel that it is a pity the CDT teachers have devalued the
skills which they once taught. Woodwork, metalwork and technical drawing were wonderful subjects.
CDT has opened itself to mockery because it is attempting to become something which many
teachers hold in no esteem. Skills are important. They are worth teaching.
The skills and their teachers are valued. Please bring them back.
