Exercise: Why do Businesses Need Money?

The partners in The Esher Textiles Company Ltd recently held a meeting to discuss the future of the business. Bringing the rest of the partners up to date, Petra Harrison, the Managing Director, stated at the meeting that:

“There is a growing demand for our new fabric designs, with a 12% increase in orders in the past month alone. We need larger facilities and more workers. Also, more modern machinery will enable us to perform tasks and processes that are impossible at present.

List Petra’s reasons for wanting more money to be put into the business, and explain exactly how the additional money will help the business to expand.
