You will also need to find out about different ways in which boxes are commonly constructed. This means that you need to look at ways of joining the corners of the box, and also at ways of joining any partitions your final design might contain.

When you finally choose which joint you will use, you need to make sure that it:

  • Suits your present level of skill whilst at the same time expands your experience
  • Is suitable for the material you are going to use. For example, if the box is to be made from pine, a dovetail joint will be harder to make than if the box was made from oak.
