Record Keeping Procedures
Members of staff teaching within the faculty should keep up-to-date records in the specially prepared
ring-binders which are provided at the start of each academic year. A separate ring-binder is provided
for each teaching group that a member of staff is allocated allowing the folder to follow the class when
the curriculum is operated on a carousel basis. The information below describes which records are to be
kept and how to keep them:
Attendance
A class register should be taken at the start of each lesson. Students present should be marked with
a stroke whilst those absent should be marked with a circle.
Homework Record
A record of whether or not students submit homework by the due date should be kept as part of the
attendance register with the
following indicators being used:
- H = Homework Submitted
- X = Homework Not Submitted
- A = Absent When Set
Attainment (Classwork and Homework)
A record of all marks awarded to students for individual pieces of work done both at school and at home
should be kept in the relevant section of the ring-binder. Marks should be awarded according to the
criteria laid out in the Marking Policy section of this handbook.
Behaviour
A record of each students behaviour in class should be kept according to the criteria laid out in the
Assertive Discipline Policy section of this handbook.
Classwork Done and Homework Set
At the end of each lesson staff should make a record both of the work that a class undertook during the
course of the lesson and of any homework that was set.
Key Stage 3 Assessment
A Key Stage 3 Assessment Record Card for each student will be stored in the Technology Office.
These should be filled-in upon the completion of each Design and Make Task (usually each half-term).
In addition to most of the indicators listed above, staff will be required to assess and record the National
Curriculum level which each student has attained. This judgement should be based upon the National
Curriculum Level Guide descriptors contained within this handbook.
