Frequently Asked Questions

The purpose of this list is to foster beneficial communication between persons interested in the furtherance of science and technology projects in schools.

This arises in connection with the Neighbourhood Engineering schemes organised throughout the UK by the Engineering Council, but is not restricted to those schemes. Please note that the list is not sponsored by the Council, so the Council is not responsible for anything said. The list is privately organised. The computer service supporting it is kindly donated by a company called BTS in Wallington, Surrey, and this company also is not responsible for anything published in the list.

The persons expected to use the list would normally be the educational staff of the schools concerned and the engineers involved in the schemes. However ideas, comment and criticism from others is also welcome, in particular from school children who have experience on the receiving end of the process.

This list is in its embryonic stage, and its development will be slow during the period of the school Summer holidays. Nevertheless please feel free to send experimental messages.

If you are not used to using mailing lists please try to remember to send only messages for publication to the main address:
success-l@bts.co.uk
All admin messages should be sent to:
success-l-request@bts.co.uk,
or in case of difficulty to the list administrator in person (see below).

To join or quit the list send an email message to the address:
success-l-request@bts.co.uk

To join make the body of the message contain the isolated word:
subscribe
To quit make the body of the message contain the isolated word:
unsubscribe
The content of the subject title line has no effect.

You may obtain an explanation of facilities by sending a message to:
success-l-request@bts.co.uk
containing the body:
help
but the only really useful service currently available is a copy of the list of subscribers, and that can be obtained merely by writing:
who
in the message body.

Though it is routed automatically the acceptance of a request for subscription will not be automatic because the limited burden we can allow on the system will determine whether the request can be met. At time of sending this message we are seeking new subscribers so please forward this message to those whom you think might be interested.

Best wishes,
Tony Booth - Streatham, London, England.
