Maths in Europe

Are your pupils involved in a Maths project? Would you like them to share their work with pupils in other European countries? If so, did you know that there is funding available through the Central Bureau in London to help you set up links with schools in Europe through a "European Education Project" (EEP)?

What is an EEP?

An EEP is a project linking three or more schools in at least three Member States of the European Community through which pupils share information with each other. The project can be a simple one, and can start off with pupils sharing information on themselves and their schools. This can then develop into a more focused project e.g. Maths!

Funding to set up European Education Projects

Money is available to support schools - nursery, primary, special and secondary - and FE colleges to set up a link with schools in two other Member States of Europe Funding can be for up to three years and varies between 2,000-3,000 ECU per school (an ECU is worth approximately 86p). Prior to setting up an EEP, funding is available for the teachers involved to meet to discuss project plans.

Primary Schools & Special Schools

To encourage more primary and special schools to access this funding, they can start off with a "bilateral" link for the first year i.e. funding is available to teachers from these schools to make up to four visits in an initial year to a potential partner school in Europe. By the end of that year, the two linked schools need to look for a third partner and prepare an EEP funding bid.

How do I find a partner school in Europe?

Support is available from the Central Bureau in London, and through the Compass Partnership (part of CEBP) in Birmingham.
