PLANTSBROOK SCHOOL |
|
| Listed below are the
activities which were planned for the Year of Numeracy at
Plantsbrook. 1. Maths across the Curriculum - This will involve members of staff from all areas of school and the aim is to draw up a document to show what maths is used in the various subject areas with a timetable. The carrot that is being used to involve other subject areas is help with their maths and an effort to work in maths on the maths topic they are involved with students during their maths lessons 2. Competitions - Involvement in National/Local maths competitions e.g. UK Junior Maths Challenge, How Long is a Piece of String, Maths Pie Summer Competition. Regular termly Maths Competitions which will be linked with the House System run at Plantsbrook School March 1997 The Estimation Challenge. This will be run on Red Nose Day, cost 20p to enter (all monies to charity) there will be 10-20 estimation questions a maximum of 10 minutes to complete these. It will be run at lunchtime as we feel that students who give of their own time enjoy these sort of activities far more than if it is organised in timetabled lessons. The questions will vary from the sublime (How long is the corridor from...) to the ridiculous (How many beans in a can? How long will it take the Head to run right around the school?). Prizes will be provided for the best results. June 1997 (A Maths Trail around Sutton Park?) Nov. 1997 (The Maths Marathon)
