writing competitions
Departmental members adhere to the National Curriculum, and pupils in all years are regularly assessed with regard to their skills in three essential skills : reading, writing and oral communication.
Theatre visits are arranged to support the reading of texts in school, and recent trips include : Bath, to watch a dramatised production of `To Kill a Mockingbird' ;Stratford, to see the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of`The Merchant of Venice'; and Tiverton, for a performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company of `Romeo and Juliet'. Current future
plans include the Royal Shakespeare Company's `The Tempest' in Plymouth, Willy Russell's acclaimed `Blood Brothers' in London, and a visit to Exeter to watch John Hegley, a leading contemporary poet.
