Working together at William Davies

At William Davies School we aim to provide an attractive and secure learning environment to develop the whole child. This means that we try to develop not only the intellectual abilities of our children but also the social, emotional, physical and moral aspect of them.

To be successful learners children need a positive image of themselves. This will give them self-confidence and motivation to achieve the high standards we expect of them. Therefore one of our concerns is to ensure full and equal access to the curriculum for all regardless of race, gender, religion, language, class or special needs. We welcome and encourage the contribution of all peoples to our community.

Within the classroom you will find a commitment from all teachers to make the pupils' work relevant to their experiences. Children learn more effectively when they are interested and stimulated and when they are active in their learning. This is especially true of our younger pupils. We try to get the balance right between 'instructing' in skills and giving pupils the opportunities to extend and apply their knowledge through problem solving. We expect all pupils to be able to read and write fluently, be competent in Maths, have grounding in Science, technology, geography and history by the time they leave us at eleven years old. A great emphasis is placed upon the 'arts' at William Davies. All pupils are encouraged to fully participate in music, art and P.E. and have opportunities to extend specific talents.

Throughout your child's primary years the teachers will work hard to encourage children to reach their maximum potential. We ask that children produce work of a high quality and that standards of behaviour match this. (We have a behaviour policy, which you are welcome to look at.) All children are aware of the contents through frequent discussion.

We celebrate achievement in all its forms. On Wednesday we have a 'Well Done Assembly' to praise good work, behaviour, helpfulness, kindness etc. Several entries in the 'Well Done Book' will lead to presentation of a certificate.
