At the start, Dr Francis Pryor, the founder of Flag Fen, thought that Flag Fen was a village as he discovered the foundations to a roundhouse. But after recent evidence Dr Pryor thinks that Flag Fen was a place of worship. Flag Fen is situated on lower ground to the hill next to it which is where a village was situated. When his team of archeologists began their digging the found some very old wood, some of this in a row of posts. He thinks that the rows of posts was a boundary, a place where the inhabitants of village would go and make sacrifices to the Gods to say 'please keep the water out' or 'please keep other people out of our villages'. The reason Dr Pryor thinks that this is why Flag Fen is here is because at one part of his excavations they found a lower layer of wood which also had deliberately broken swords and other valuables. The bronze age people didn't use swords as weapons as they were too hard to forge. At battles they used to wave their swords and beat their chests to try and show the enemy have strong they were. They were actually used as a symbol of wealth and all the swords were 'christened' so destroying a sword was like killing a person so it was done with a sense of 'style' ('the Lady of the Lake' with Excaluber the sword is a good example of this). So when Dr Pryor found these swords he knew that they would have to have been destroyed for a very good reason, like asking the Gods to stop enemies invading and to stop floods, for example.
