Staff & Facilities

The department is staffed by three full time teachers and one part time supported by one full time assistant/technician. The Art Centre was re-housed in 1986 modernising and extending an existing Victorian Workshop in Woodwork Lane.

Studio 1 - is a general 2D studio, a flexible area that can either be formally arranged or quickly organised into open studio space.

Studio2 - is principally equipped for ceramic work - with washable surfaces, tiling, drainage and sink provision. It contains 2 electric wheels, 2 kick wheels,a vertical pug mill, a jigger- jolly machine, a blunger. There are small separate store rooms for glaze preparation and there is a glaze spray booth with extractor. There is a separate lockable kiln room with 2 electric kilns and a gas kiln also equipped with suitable extraction.

Studio 3 - is primarily a 6th form studio which provides individual studio space for the U6th and studio space for life drawing and larger ambitious projects.

Studio 4 - is devoted to Textiles and is located close by in the practical centre.

The department has darkroom facilities in a separate adjacent area.

The Department uses the following IT equipment - 4 PCs, 2 scanners, HP Laserjet Printer, 2 Epson Stylus colour printers, 1 8mm VCR, 2 VCRs, 1 editing desk, rocgen, rockey, a digital video camera, 2  digital stills cameras, Internet Access via RMPLC. Software - Freehand, Quark Express, Photoshop, Deluxe Paint , Art Department Pro, Scala, Corel Draw 8

The Archway Gallery provides an interesting space to house exhibitions by professional artists and school exhibitions .
