ALTA VISTA WEB INDEX to search
the Internet. To date this database has stored more than 10 billion
words from 22 million Web pages taking up a massive
33 Gigabytes of disc space (it runs on a Digital server
8400 with 10 CPUs, 6 GBytes of Ram and 210 GBytes of disc space).

The Yahoo Web Index started
by a couple of students at Stanford University and makes a great place to
start exploring from. Yahoo presents a list of categories linked to
sub-categories of subjects to search for.
The Web Crawler database is compiled by
WEB-EXPLORING ROBOTS and contains information on over 100,000
different documents on the World Wide Web. The tables of all known, unvisited
documents, contains data on over 900,000 different documents. You can enter
a search word or phrase in a box and it quickly returns the address of relevant
documents.
Kidsweb is a World Wide Web
digital library for schoolkids.
Websters
Dictionary returns definitions of any word in the English language with
links to related words.
 Pathways
for Education is a categorised list of educational sites.
And for the Teachers
UK Educational
Information including links to the UK National Curriculum guidelines.
Useful links to current BBC educational
programmes.
Scholastic's Internet centre where
you can visit and search their 'Learning Libraries' and 'Education Store'.
Read 'Press Return', their on-line magazine written by students, and take

The B&R Samizdat Express makes
available a large selection of public domain electronic texts. You can also

Educom is a consortium of leading colleges
and universities based in Washington, D.C. and has been integrating information
technology into classrooms for more than 25 years. Although dealing mainly
with higher education they are a great resource for developing the use of
IT. Check out their free email publication
Edupage that you can subscribe
to and receive three times a week. It is not very long and makes interesting
reading.
