Materials in the Body
Materials in the body have to stand up to a warm and corrosive environment.
In the science museum there is a life-size transparent model of a man that shows a variety of implants made of materials which are safe within the body.

Materials that Protect the Body
There is a display of clothing including a bullet-proof vest, Carl Fogarty’s motorcycling leathers. Also materials that can protect the body in the harshest environment. There is a display of the Gor-Tex suit that was worn by the first woman to climb Mt Everest.

Materials in Aircraft
This section shows how high-tech materials designed for air and space craft have been transferred in to everyday life. For example carbon fibre which was designed for nose cones on aircraft. Carbon fibre is now used to make many types of sporting equipment.
