History of the Chemical Industry

Throughout he history of chemicals, we have used them in all different ways such as petrol which is used world wide by many people to power there vehicles. Chemicals are used to make foods such as salt which is made by sodium and chlorine, vinegar which is made by fermentation by the process of the young beer which is made using malt from barley and yeast. The beer contains alcohol which is a carbohydrate. The young beer trickles through a tower. This is full of wood shavings covered with Acetobactor bacteria. These change the alcohol into ethaoic acid (vinegar). Air is then pumped down the tower, the process runs for about 5 days and all the beer is eventually turned into vinegar.

This picture above shows the crude oil and where it comes from. All the products which are made from crude oil are listed above, such as wax, petrol makeup and so on.

Crude oil is seperated into different things by using a fractionating tower (as shown above). At different temperatures different things are made like at acertain temperature petrol, wax and other things can be made.
