This web based student project was written as an entry for the 11-18
category for the 1999 STEM Projects Awards. The project is based
on information contained in theNuclear Physics & Petroleum Galleries
at the Science Museum.
|
|
| On display is equipment used in epoch making experiments to probe the
structure of the atom from the discovery of the
electron by JJ Thompson in 1897 to the latest experiments at CERN. The nuclear power section includes the engineering model for Sizewell power. Other displays give information about the reprocessing of nuclear fuel and plans for long-term disposal of nuclear waste. |
Project Background
Before starting the project our Year 10 class was divided into groups
containing two or three pupils.
We chose a project which linked together the Nuclear Physics and Petroleum
Galleries and the Energy in Chemistry topic in our GCSE course.
