| The town has been well served by the
Trent & Mersey Canal. Built to help the safe transport of goods from the Potteries.
The Stone section was completed in 1777 but part opened in 1771. Over enthusiastic
celebrations are said to have resulted in a cannon being fired and causing £1000 damage
to a lock! There are wharves and leisure boats to be seen today. There is a well
documented town trail that can be picked up at various locations in the Town that includes
the canal and other places of interest. |
