The Town Crest contains the story of the town. You can see the barrel used in the brewing industry with the old Joules Brewery, the bradawl and awl are to do with shoemaking that grew up around the products associated with the cattle market.

The two black lozenges are representative of the North & South Staffordshire coalfields and the wheatsheaf shows the importance of agriculture. SIT SAXUM FIRMUM translates to being “Let the stone be firm” The Pegasus on top is from the Coat of Arms of one of Stone’s famous personalities, Earl St. Vincent. The Market Town of Stone was named after the pile of stones raised on the graves of the Princes killed by their father, King Wulhere of Mercia in 665 AD
